The Scientific Direction, coordinates the research activities which are entirely devoted to the study and the treatment of cancer.

Our mission: to defeat cancer. The Candiolo Institute is a comprehensive Cancer Center that enables both the two-way transfer of experimental preclinical information into clinical practice, to offer patients new chances of treatment and of clinical needs to basic and translational research to fuel new discoveries in the fields of cancer diagnosis, genetics, molecular and cell biology and pathology.

Our key words:

Team-working. Scientists and clinicians work together and share the results of their studies in order to foster and encourage viewpoints and opinions of all people and disciplines. The net of interactions involves formal aspects (seminars and meetings), training (refresher courses and lessons), and operational efforts (contacts with pharmaceutical companies, and management of regulatory instruments).

Ethics. The members of the ethical committee meet every month to discuss and evaluate whether each project and protocol related to patient care and research is based on appropriate, truthful, informed, transparent principles and respectful of privacy.

Networking. We are part of regional, national and international cancer center networks and in concert with other institutions we are developing new diagnostic tools and designing clinical trials.

Innovation. Research facilities and clinical structures can count on the more advanced and proper technologies using state-of-the-art instrumentation for diagnosis, radiotherapy and surgery.

Caring and curing. We provide full cycles of treatment on the premises, employing - besides the best conventional therapies - protocols for novel targeted therapies and clinical trials for ‘precision medicine’. All the clinical staff is concerned of the distress of the person at risk or affected by this disease throughout the entire cycle of cancer care including prevention, intervention and survivorship.

About
